Magnets operate by the law of attraction, men and women operate by the law of attraction. Much in this world operates by the law of attraction, and so does grace. You can make yourself attractive to grace, you can make yourself more of a beacon for grace to find you.
Grace is attracted to the following: the more empty your space, the more attractive you are to grace. The more receptive and open you are, the more attractive you are to grace. The less self-concern, the less propped up into ego, the more egoless—in other words, and by definition, the more egoless, the more open, the more empty: the more attractive you are to grace.
Grace is far more attracted, you could say only attracted, to yes and never attracted to no. The more yes operates naturally in you, the more your whole being is a yes—the more you say yes to life and to what comes across your path, the more attractive you are to grace. The more noise in you, the more fight is in you, the less attractive you are to grace.
Don’t misunderstand. Yes doesn’t mean an indiscriminate, stupid yes. “Can I kill you?” Yes. “Can I cut your throat?” Yes. No! Yes includes no. Yes includes being intelligent. It doesn’t mean a stupid yes; it means a real yes—a yes where the heart is open—not in the New Age, airy-fairy way, but in the real sense, positive.
So grace is attracted to that which is truly positive, truly embracing—genuinely and sincerely positive. It’s not a philosophical condition. It’s an energy condition. It has to be emanating from the true heart. Then it’s like a beacon and a homing device for grace. Grace looks down and sees your light flashing brighter than the rest, and heads that way.
There’s no way to harness grace. There’s no way to be greedy about grace. There’s no way to say or figure out, “How can I get more grace? How can I bring grace more into my life?”
The way you get grace is to make yourself more attractive to grace.
The way to become more attractive to grace is to be more available to What Is.
It can’t be sought after, but if it’s to be lived, if it’s to manifest where you are in your life—only one understanding will serve that: that grace can be surrendered to. Any and all genuine surrender—be it to life, be it to God, be it to a Guru, be it to Existence, be it to a tree, be it to your wife, to your husband, be it to your children. … All surrender in any form, to any degree, is attractive to grace.
Grace only recognizes the look and the smell and the sound of surrender. It doesn’t recognize anything else. You could say it speaks only the language of surrender.
So can you “get” grace? No.
Can grace come to you? Yes.
How does it come? Through your surrender.
